12 Best Lazy Spa Hot Tubs Reviewed

When the world went into lockdown, our family found solace in transforming our garden into a sanctuary of tranquillity and fun. We built a cosy outdoor space with a wooden gazebo, BBQ, comfortable seating, twinkling fairy lights, and a groovy sound system. But there was one thing missing that would elevate our garden haven to the next level… a Jacuzzi!

Initially, the idea seemed out of reach, considering the hefty price tags of hard shell hot tubs, ranging from £2000 to £10,000. But my husband, Scott, always the problem-solver, introduced us to Lazy Spa Hot Tubs. These inflatable jacuzzis, priced between a modest £200 to £900, promise to deliver the luxurious spa experience right home. Their easy installation and no need for concrete bases or digging appealed to Scott’s less-than-handy DIY skills.

I must admit, I was sceptical at first, imagining it to be nothing more than an oversized paddling pool. But one evening, with a cocktail and the bubbles soothing my stress, I was instantly won over. These inflatable hot tubs heat up and bubble like their hard shell counterparts, with massage jets hitting all the right pressure points.

We chose the Lay Z Spa St Moritz, a model that comfortably accommodated our entire family, including my 6ft 8in husband. The powerful massage jets, ease of maintenance, and the inflatable cover that prevents heat loss all contributed to a delightful spa experience right in our backyard. The automatic temperature control ensured it was always ready for our next soak.

One unexpected bonus was how much our kids loved it! The hot tub doubled as a cool plunge pool, perfect for them to stand, play, or swim. The cushioned floor added an extra layer of safety, making it a hit with the little ones.

As a proud owner and tester of a Lazy Spa, I can confidently recommend these hot tubs. They’re not just a purchase but an investment in relaxation, fun, and family time. Trust me, your only regret is not getting one sooner!

At Life is a Picnic, we don’t just review products; we live them. Our hands-on experience with St Moritz Lazy Spa and several other Lazy Spa models, combined with feedback from friends, family, and customers, forms the basis of our comprehensive reviews. We’ve done the homework so you don’t have to! We also used to put all our experience into a comprehensive buyers guide for Lay Z Spas.

Lazy Spa Hot Tub Buyers Guide

So are you ready to get your first Lay-Z Spa Hot Tub Jacuzzi? But with these different styles, sizes, and makes, where do you start? This short guide will look at the size, cost, durability, and everything you need to know to make the best purchase.

Size of Lay-Z-Spa

When hunting for the perfect Lazy Spa, you’ll first want to peek at your backyard or garden space. Ensure you have enough room to fit your dream inflatable hot tub! Next, think about who you’ll be sharing this relaxing oasis with. Are you planning on inviting friends over? Will it be a cosy spot just for you and your partner? Maybe the kids will want to join in too?

Most Lay-Z-Spas are designed to comfortably fit up to 4 people, like the oh-so-popular Lay-Z-Spa Cancun Hot Tub. This model measures 180 x 180 x 66 cm, offering a perfect space for 2 to 4 people to chill out and unwind.

But hey, if you’re all about hosting fabulous hot tub parties or want room for a larger crowd, Lay-Z-Spas can accommodate up to 6 people! Check out the spacious Lay-Z-Spa Milan Airjet Plus Inflatable Hot Tub, which measures 196 x 196 x 71 cm and has enough room for 4 to 6 party-goers.

The largest Lazy Spa you can buy is the 7-8 person Grenada Hot Tub. Round in size, so no one gets stuck on a corner, heats to 40 deg c and 234 x 234W x 69 cm. This is the Jacuzzi to get the party started!

Ultimately, it’s all about what suits your style, budget, and hot tub goals.

Now that we’ve sorted the size and capacity, let’s dive into the costs, shall we?

Cost of Lay-Z-Spa

When buying a lazy spa, it’s good to consider how much it will cost to maintain each month. While the lazy spa is much more affordable than a hot tub, easier to put together, and cheaper to keep, it will still impact your energy bills. You also need to factor in the additional cost to your weekly shop as you’ll have to buy sanitisers and other chemicals to take care of the water. (plus cocktail stuff, haha)

The electricity and water your lazy spa would use are usually around £80 a month extra. Add £20 to that for cleaning equipment. That boils down to around £20 weekly to maintain and run a Lazy Spa. That said, the cost of your spa will vary depending on how long you use it, what settings you use, how many people bathe in it, and your local energy provider.

In any case, making a few calculations before purchasing is very useful!

Buyers guide to finding the right lazy spa hot tub

Durability of Lay-Z-Spa

When choosing your lazy spa, you probably want to know how long this thing will last. The good news is, with awesome drop stitch material and beam construction inside the walls, lazy spas keep their shape and quality no matter how many times you inflate and deflate them.

The drop stitch material uses thousands of super strong polyester threads to create a rigid and hard surface making a super strong inflatable spa surface. And with many great benefits like built-in pumps, as long as you take care of this baby, this thing will last you a lifetime!

Warranty on a Lay-Z-Spa

Depending on which make you go with, the warranty tends to be around two years. This means that whatever happens, you can ask for some advice from your manufacturer, send it back for repair, or even get a new one sent out to you in case of a malfunction! Just keep the receipt, and you’ll be well served.

Setting up a Lay Z Spa Hot Tub

The great thing about lazy spas is that they’re easy to set up. Many Lazy Spas inflate in less than five minutes without any tools!

Firstly, the best thing to do when setting up your spa is to read the instructions carefully. Pick a level spot free of weeds, stones, or other potentially annoying objects. Then place a thick insulating foam underneath (or Lay-z-Spa Mat) before you put the tub together. This will help the tub keep the water warm.

Place the tub on the cover, attach the pump and inflate it until it looks as firm as it will get, then cover the valve again. Inflate the lid next, then connect the pump to the hot tub. They need to be hand-tied. And don’t forget to keep the pump on the same as the hot tub!

Screw the filter inside the hot tub. Once that’s done, fill the spa with water. And there should be a rough guide of maximum and minimum water required. Fill it halfway with cold water, then fill the rest with hot water. This way, it will be up to temperature a little bit faster!

Safety of a Lay-Z-Spa

For a super-safe lazy spa hot tub spa, you want to:

  • Make sure you keep the water hygienic
  • Keep an eye on those chemical levels by testing the water at least weekly
  • And keep your kids at arm’s length and safe from falling in the spa

You can do this by never leaving your children in the hot tub alone. I was happy that the chemicals we used in the Lay Z Spa didn’t affect our little ones in any way, either on their skin or breathing.

Make sure you keep the equipment clean with regular washes. Also, add stabiliser to your chlorine if it’s outdoors, and check the levels if more than three people use the hot tub at once and after a lot of rain. The water will dilute with the rain, so you want to ensure the chemicals haven’t dissipated.

Frequently Asked Questions On Lay-Z-Spa Hot Tubs

How to clean and store lay z spa properly?

Mix a medium-strength laundry detergent or washing-up liquid and scrub with a warm cloth to keep mould from contaminating your lazy spa during storage. Make sure it’s nice and dry before storing it.

How do I deflate my lazy spa?

To deflate your lazy spa, empty the water first and ensure it’s nice and dry. After that, you can open the deflation valve, fold each wing and press until all the air has been extracted. Continue this process until it’s deflated.

How many chlorine tablets does a lazy spa take?

Depending on the size of your lazy spa, you’ll put in around 3 to 5 tablets. However, measure the volume of water in your spa first. For small spas, you would put in 1 to 3 tablets. For bigger lazy spas, you’ll put in 3 to 5 tablets.

How much does it cost to run a lazy spa hot tub?

On average, a lazy spa will cost you about £100 a month or £20 a week. That depends on how often it is used, how many people use it, your local electricity supplier, and more.

What is a lazy spa freeze shield?

The Lazy Spa freeze shield is a technology incorporated into some Lay-Z-Spa hot tubs to prevent water from freezing during winter months. It works by continuously monitoring the water temperature and activating the heating system if the temperature drops close to freezing, ensuring your hot tub remains functional even in cold weather.

What is lazy spa chem connect?

Lazy Spa Chem Connect is a feature that simplifies maintaining water chemistry in your Lay-Z-Spa hot tub. It acts as a dispenser, holding chlorine tablets and releasing them gradually into the water to maintain the appropriate chlorine levels, helping to keep the water clean and safe for use.

When to change the lazy spa filter?

It’s recommended to change the filter of your Lazy Spa every 1-2 weeks, depending on usage and water conditions. Regularly cleaning the filter between replacements can prolong its life, but it’s essential to replace it when necessary to maintain proper water filtration and avoid damage to your hot tub’s pump.

Can lazy spas be left out in winter?

Some Lazy Spa models, such as the Lay-Z-Spa Helsinki, are designed to withstand colder temperatures and can be left out in winter under a hot tub gazebo. However, utilising features like the freeze shield is essential to prevent water from freezing. For models without freeze protection, draining and storing the hot tub during freezing conditions is recommended to avoid damage.

Can lazy spa be left out in the rain?

Lazy Spas are designed to be water-resistant and can generally withstand rain. However, the pump and heater unit should be protected from direct exposure to rain to prevent potential electrical issues. Using a weather-resistant cover during periods of heavy rain can help protect your hot tub and prolong its life.

Can lazy spa go on grass?

Yes, Lazy Spas can be placed on grass, but using a ground cloth or protective mat beneath the hot tub is recommended to prevent damage from stones, debris, or uneven ground. This additional layer will help insulate the hot tub and minimise heat loss.

Can lazy spa be cold?

Lazy Spas are designed to heat water to a comfortable temperature, typically between 68°F to 104°F (20°C to 40°C). However, if you prefer a cooler experience, set the temperature to your desired level or turn off the heating system for a cold plunge.

Can lazy spa be left on all the time?

Yes, Lazy Spas can be left on all the time. Keeping the pump running continuously is recommended to maintain proper filtration and water circulation. The heating system can be set to maintain a constant temperature, or you can turn it off when the hot tub is not in use to save energy.

What temperature for a lazy spa?

The ideal temperature for a Lazy Spa is subjective and depends on personal preferences. Generally, hot tub temperatures range between 68°F to 104°F (20°C to 40°C), with most people finding a temperature of around 100°F (37.8°C) comfortable. Adjust the temperature to your desired level using the control panel.
